The challenge with the Meld Misdaad Anoniem commercial was capturing the story while preserving the caller’s anonymity.
This is the core of their mission, and it needed to come across naturally. We chose to show various bystanders observing an arrest, each a possible caller but without a clear connection to the suspect.
They pause, each caught by the moment, watching as events unfold.
The concept was only part of the challenge—we also faced a tight schedule, with just six hours to shoot all the different scenarios. We had to wrap before the sun came up.
With limited time for pre-lighting, we brought in extra crew members to swiftly manage lighting and power adjustments on set.
We filmed with a dolly to add a slight, almost imperceptible sense of depth.
The slow movement towards each character as they remain still adds tension to the scene.
We were also mindful to avoid portraying any specific group or location, so we used anamorphic lenses.
Not only did this enhance the visual quality, but it also helped blur the background enough to obscure any identifiable details of the filming location.
Seeing it in 150 cinemas across the country was a rewarding end to the journey.
